Dakota Medical Foundation

For two years I had the privilege of working with Dakota Medical Foundation on their annual report. The relationship had been forged in the early years of FrostFire Media when we partnered with a local group of business leaders who volunteered time to create the Lend-A-Hand program.

The unique aspect of the annual report projects was the quality standards and content requirements. When we produced the first book in 2008 the recession hadn’t hit yet and foundations were still fiscally viable. The budget was immense and we were able to incorporate incredible standards which produced an amazing piece.

The following year the recession had settled in, stocks had bottomed out and budgets were tight. The challenge was to match the quality, but deploy more economical approaches to stay within a budget that was a 1/4 of the year before. By reducing the page count, engaging with the print vendor and working with an independent photographer, we were able to accomplish a very high quality piece and most board members and recipients of the report did not notice the difference between the two years.

One feature that the digital versions do not illustrate is the unique use of metallic inks to add a new level of pizazz to the pieces. This was a new feature that our team brought to the mix and greatly enhanced the beauty and appeal of the reports for the reader.
